As Memphis Athletic Ministries (MAM) commemorates its 25th anniversary, we are honored to share 25 stories of impact, showcasing the incredible ways in which this youth ministry has touched lives and made a difference in the community. Among these stories is the partnership between MAM and the 901 Fund, an organization that promotes local charities and businesses by involving University of Memphis student-athletes in community service endeavors.

The 901 Fund was established in March 2022 with a mission to drive awareness of local charities and businesses while providing opportunities for U of M student-athletes to give back to the community through NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals.

The connection between the 901 Fund and MAM was a result of visionary thinking. While researching sports-related organizations in Memphis, MAM quickly emerged as a prime potential partner due to its charitable nature. Co-founder Clay Presley recognized that this partnership would not only benefit the community but also provide meaningful experiences for student-athletes. A meeting between Clay and representatives at MAM, laid the foundation for collaboration, setting the stage for what would become a transformative partnership.

Since then, the impact has been palpable. Over the years, U of M players have participated in numerous MAM events, from football kickoffs to basketball camps to community visits. These interactions have not only fostered a sense of connection between student-athletes and the community but also continuously inspire our youth. MAM Interim President & Chief Executive Officer Kevin Windsor says, “The U of M athletes embody a picture of ‘what is possible’ to our students. This includes positive role models who are continuing their education after high school, giving back to the community, and providing positive, caring interactions with young people.”

Rachel Reddin, Operations Director at the 901 Fund, emphasizes the unique role that MAM plays in the community. By combining faith, sports, and education as pillars of success, MAM fills a crucial gap in youth development, creating well-rounded individuals primed for success both on and off the field.

For Maggie Odom, NIL Marketing Specialist with the 901 Fund, one standout memory highlights the shared commitment to making a positive impact in Memphis. “We had eight student-athletes visit the Leawood site to interact with youth in the afterschool program. At the time, that appearance had the most U of M team representation compared to any other 901 Fund activation. With MAM’s core sports being flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, it was really fun having U of M football, volleyball, and women’s/men’s soccer players giving their time back to Memphis youth, and hopefully some future tigers.”

Finally, U of M quarterback Seth Henigan reflects on the profound impact of working with MAM. As a student-athlete, Seth recognizes the reciprocal nature of giving back to the community—it’s not just about the impact he and his teammates make on others, but also the joy and fulfillment they experience in return. Seth says, “I am so grateful to be able to work with Memphis Athletic Ministries to better the Memphis community. Every time my teammates and I get to go to a MAM site, we have a great time and are able to pour into the youth through games and mentorship. The impact goes both ways, and we have fun and enjoy it just as much as the kids do. MAM has impacted me positively because giving back in any way makes everyone feel good, and it’s just a fun experience when I get to go.”
