Rajah Brown, MAM area director, tells Fox 13 9:00 News how MAM loves giving males, ages 16 to 20, a fun place to go and shoot hoops with friendly competition.

The Memphis Grizzlies, Memphis Gun Down and the Memphis Police Department are hosting Midnight Basketball tournaments at the Memphis Athletic Ministries’ Grizzlies Athletic Center every Saturday night.

The tournaments will be held every weekend (excluding Independence Day weekend) throughout the summer beginning June 21st from 7 – 11 pm. The last tournament date is set for July 26th.

As part of a larger effort to reduce crime amongst teenagers, the Midnight Basketball tournaments will serve as a positive alternative during noted high crime hours on Saturdays. Each Saturday there will be a separate double elimination style tournament.

Each game within the tournament is up to 10 minutes, with winners advancing to the next round. Participants, ages 16-20, can come with a team of five or be paired up with other individuals to form teams.

There is no cost to participate and prizes will be given to winning teams.

Registration begins at 6:30 pm each Saturday.  The Memphis Athletic Ministries’ Grizzlies Activity Center is located at 2107 Ball Road, Memphis, TN 38114.
