History with the Memphis Grizzlies
MAM was the first organization in Memphis to receive a grant from the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Fund. In December 2001, the Grizzlies donated $1 million to MAM to support the construction of the Memphis Grizzlies Athletic Center, a state-of-the-art sports and recreation complex, located in South Memphis. To date, more than $4.2 million has been contributed to MAM by the Grizzlies Foundation to support program operations and expand after-school opportunities to six additional sites throughout Memphis. Additionally, over 8,000 youth—from 1,200 when the partnership began—in Shelby County participate in MAM programs. Grizzlies regularly host camps, clinics and coach development programs with MAM each year, and players and coaches make periodic visits to MAM sites.

The Memphis Grizzlies Grizzlies-MAM relationship was recognized with the Corporate Partnership Award in November 2006 at the Volunteer Memphis’ Corporate Neighbor Awards. This is awarded to a company that has established an on-going dynamic partnership with a non-profit resulting in significant benefits to both partners:
“This partnership is a true winner in every sense. The partnership was born in 2001 to help address the needs of Mid-South youth –- through sports. The partnership aimed at expanding facilities, fostering the growth of sports leagues to bring together youth from all geographic and socio-economic areas of the community, teaching youth the principles of competition, teamwork and sportsmanship, and fostering unity among diverse segments of the community. This partnership engages all members of the Grizzlies family and all of the activities help provide positive role models in the lives of kids, due to the deliberate and active training and supervision of volunteers, coaches and staff.”
