Volunteer Mid-South pays tribute to spirit shown by top givers

Volunteer Mid-South recently honored the area’s top volunteers at the 36th annual Spirit of Giving Awards Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Holiday Inn-University of Memphis. Sponsors were Comcast Cable, the Junior League of Memphis, the National Council of Jewish Women and United Way of the Mid-South.
The first-place winner received a check of $500 for the nonprofit organization they represented. All first-, second-, and third-place winners received engraved awards and all nominees received certificates and were recognized for their dedicated volunteer support to nonprofit organizations in our community.
The 2012 Spirit of Giving winners are:
Small Group
First place — The McFarland Family, Memphis Athletic Ministries
Second place — ReStore VIPs Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis’ Restore
Third place — Frank and Sue Guarino, Playhouse on the Square
Large Group
First place — LifeLine to Success Inc., Frayser Exchange Club and the community of Frayser
Second place — Youth Villages Runners Club, Youth Villages
Third place — Highland Church of Christ HUGS Ministry, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
Youth
First place — Kathleen Golightly, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Second place — Karrye Delvridge, Mid-South Transplant Foundation Inc.
Adult
First place — Bridgette Flack, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
Second place — Sabrina Smith, Mid-South Transplant Foundation Inc.
Third place — Gayle Beckler, Camp Good Grief/Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief, Baptit Memorial Hospital
Senior
First place — William Byrne, Tennessee Mentorship (Frayser Organizations)
Second place — Robert Carter, Juvenile Court Auxiliary Probation Service
Third place — Joseph Oliver, Pink Palace Family of Museums
Outstanding Volunteer Program
First place — Mid-South Food Bank
Second place — Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
The Lenore Sapinsley Creson Board Member of the Year award went to Harvey Middleton, Shelby Residential Vocational Services.
