While Memphis Football’s preseason training program began with the start of the spring semester, the Tigers took another step toward the 2015 season with its first 5:30 a.m. conditioning workout of spring on Friday.
Competitive Excellence is just one of four pillars the Memphis Football program continues to be built upon under head coach Justin Fuente. The others are Academic Integrity, Social Responsibility and Individual Accountability. And away from the focus on competitive excellence, the Tigers turned their attention to another cornerstone of the program as the team resumed its community involvement in the Memphis area on Saturday.
Memphis had a group of student-athletes work to clear a ravine of undergrowth outside Memphis Athletic Ministries which is located near Airways and I-240. Also on Saturday, several departing seniors spent a portion of their morning at Youth Villages in East Shelby County.
“It was great. Spending time and being able to make an impact on someone who has gone through a lot,” said Melvin Jones of the visit to Youth Villages. “It makes me appreciate the things I have, but also know I can do more to help others.”
“It was an hour of my life spent the right way,” added Charles Harris. “Something to keep you level headed when you think life could be better for you. It makes you appreciate all the blessings in your life that much more.”
