Teen representatives from several area organizations have partnered to host a series of forums for teens to discuss proactive steps to curbing youth violence.

The OUR Voice Youth Empowerment Forums, which began Tuesday, Oct. 7, are open exclusively to middle and high school students and are closed to adults. The goal is for teens to collaborate and discuss the issue of violence in a peer-to-peer environment.

The conversations focus on discussions about the actions parents and community members can take to support the vast majority of Memphis youth who are committed to leading positive and productive lives, and to prevent violent acts sparked by a few.

Teen representatives from five partner organizations – BRIDGES, City of Memphis’ Office of Youth Services, First Baptist Church Broad, Memphis Athletic Ministries and New Direction Christian Church – came together to plan the series.

Upcoming dates for the OUR Voice Youth Empowerment Forums are Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Memphis Athletic Ministries; Thursday, Oct. 9, at BRIDGES; and Oct. 18 at First Baptist Church Broad.

Teens can register for the free forums at www.cityofmemphisyouth.org.
