WREG’s Bright Spots features backpack program for Memphis and Honduras children

By January 15, 2015 Comments

View Markova  Reed’s Bright Spot’s story on WREG Channel 3, December 15, 2014  and see how Impact Logistics is partnering with Point of Impact and Memphis Athletic Ministries to help children, globally and locally, be prepared for school.

Through January 31, 2015, your gift of $60 fills two backpacks with school supplies and uniforms – one for a child in Memphis and one for a child in Honduras. Donate here.

Our goal is 900 backpacks. 450 will be delivered to Honduran children for their new school year in February and 450 to MAM boys and girls when school starts in August.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Impact logistics started as a small staffing company with four employees 29 years ago. Today, the company based in Bartlett, employs 2,000 people across the country.

Owner David Hamilton said his reasons for giving back are simple, “One of our guiding principles at impact is to return to the community a share of the success that we have.”

Each year, Hamilton sends 450 backpacks to Honduras through his mission work. The country is so poor Hamilton said if the children don’t have their own school supplies, none are provided for them. Hamilton said the backpacks include the essentials, “That provides them a uniform for school, shoes and all the supplies they need for an entire school year.”

This year, Hamilton avid wanted to give backpacks to children in Memphis and learned there are 450 children enrolled in Memphis Athletic Ministries. That was the connection he needed and the partnership was born, “we wanted to come along side someone that had a great track record with helping kids.”

MAM is a safe haven for inner city children where they can play sports, get tutoring and learn life skills. Many of the children that participate in MAM live in extreme poverty.

The backpacks cost $60 and you can donate here.

When you look good, you feel good, and you perform better.

Hamilton hopes the new uniforms will boost the students’ self esteem and their grades.
